As You Were

Lots have happened since my last post in early August and I’m beginning to wonder whether we can cram much more into the rest of the year – the death of Queen Elizabeth II, threats of nuclear weapon use in Russia’s Ukraine war, monster hurricanes, the USA’s political reality theatre, the All Blacks winning some rugby games, and numerous other events overseas and at home have taken up all the bandwidth.

It’s been over 6 months since I last put up an As You Were! post (couldn’t you wait a bit longer? I hear you say).  One of the reasons I haven’t posted was because I ran out of time while we were selling and buying a house and then we started a major reno project doing the place up that we bought.

Greetings one and all. Apologies for this post being late for place of parade – excuses include Covid 19 (not sure how exactly, but everything seems too take much longer), getting the house ready to put on the market, working with the National Army Museum (NAM) and RFCA on the up-coming RF Cadet School display, getting my book ready for publication, old age, and the silly season generally.

Greetings Clubbies. My commiserations for those in Auckland who are still locked down at level 3 – at least you can now get takeaways.

Greetings fellow Clubbies. I hope you are all weathering the latest lockdown well. My commiserations to those in Auckland and Northland for your longer stay in Level 4 and I hope that the daily case numbers start tracking down soon.

Dear Clubbies – Happy RF Cadet School Birthday for the 15th July – the date the School was officially formed in 1948. (Quite an auspicious year, really – the same year I was born!)

The first Class to march-in at Trentham Camp was Miles Company (Miles and Mead were called companies and not classes).

It was good to have had an ANZAC day which was able to be commemorated in the way we traditionally have, after last year’s COVID-affected events. Looking at our Facebook group site, I could see that we participated in ceremonies throughout here and Australia by parading, attending, and addressing gatherings.
