RFCA Update, April 2020

Covid 19 Lockdown

While this might be one of the longest periods of detention that most of us have had to endure, we know that Clubbies will be doing their bit to make it work for everyone. As Greg Hill used to say when he took us for runs in Waiouru, “you should just about be feeling it now”. This may be a bit longer run than usual, so “dig it in” might also apply. Kia kaha.

 Anzac Day 2020

On Saturday this week a hopefully one of a kind Anzac Day will happen under NZ’s Alert Level 4 response to the Covid 19 pandemic. To mark the occasion, the RSA has asked for those who can to “stand to” at their gate at 0600 for a minute’s silence. Playing of bugles is optional. Bagpipes must socially distance 1000m apart.

Venerable Classes

The RFCA recently instituted a new status for the more senior of our ranks. As a mark of respect to those that reach the 65th anniversary of their march-in to RF Cadets, we are honouring them as “Venerable” class members. In effect, they will be at least 80 years of age when this happens. We are also waiving RFCA membership fees for our Venerable classmates.

While the Covid 19 alert levels are high, we have curtailed the advertising of our various items of memorabilia (so as to not to place too much extra burden on the couriers doing their essential product deliveries). The reprint of A Favoured Few was also cut short by Alert Level 4 and hadn’t quite been completed when the lights went out. Once things get a little bit more settled, we will bring items back on stream.

RF Cadet Day – 15 July

Our birthday is coming up. 15 July, 1948 was the date the School was formally established so we are calling on all Clubbies to mark this auspicious day in area gatherings, Covid 19 Alert levels willing. Closer to the date, we will be letting you know what area events have been organised.
